Publishing Stories

As you know, I’ve been sharing my process of finding a literary agent and so far I can confirm I have had two rejections. I haven’t feel deflated or defeated, but it has encouraged me to keep on going. Whether the manuscript gets published or not, I do believe I WILL get something published one day; If I keep writing, the determination will pay off. There’s no other option.

What stories, good or bad, can you share about looking for a publisher or agent?

"I loved writing as a child, loved making up silly stories. They came built-in to my brain, almost like an Ikea instruction manual. The focus these days is to figure out how to now turn them into books" Tanya Butler, June 2018

  1. I’ve not started submitting yet, but I’m close. I am still tackling the synopsis which I’m finding tough. But I am readying myself for the rejections, and like you, I plan to keep writing and keep submitting – it is my dream, so I must persist! Best of luck with your submissions. 🙂

    1. Best of your luck with completing your work as well as submitting it, M.L. have a look on google for synopsis examples and things which agencies or publishers look out for. Sometimes if the synopsis isn’t sold correctly, you get an automatic rejection. Grrr!

  2. Best wishes, Tan, in finding the right literary agent. I, too, am on the hunt. Everything I’ve read or heard from successful writers is to expect rejection and keep submitting–a lot. The right agent is out there. You just need to keep searching and keep writing.

  3. I’m be been on the hunt for the last year for an agent. I send small batches out and rework my material, editing and improving as I go. I believe it’s all about perseverance. It might not be my first novel that gets picked up, so I just continue to write. Best of luck on your journey.

    1. We seem to have some similarities with our agent journeys then! I do find there are days, as a mother of 2, that writing just gets forgotten about and other priorities take over but recently I’ve felt like writing all the time, even when I’m tired or have off days off. The passion is always there and I bet 99% of all published books are from people who have passion and determination. I hope you find an agent for your work Lorraine 🙂

  4. I like a lot of people who have commented thus far, am also looking for an agent. I have gotten a lot of polite rejections that all encourage me to keep looking. Always bear in mind that an agent is just as much looking for that perfect author as much as an author is looking for that perfect agent. It is also good to get yourself out there like this blog. It becomes easier to, for lack of words, sell you to a publisher later on if you already have a good base of followers. Keep up the good work.
