Project Three – Second Draft

Tuesdays are typically my Starbucks-Writing day.  Today I didn’t feel like going, whether it’s the weather – the lack of any sort of cold anywhere, or my ideas didn’t feel like being typed out with the help of a Latte, I’ll never know.  Instead, I ran a few errands and was home before 10am.  For the first time in days, I opened up Project Three and edited a bit more.

I think one more draft, and then it’ll be sent off for submission – if I’m honest, I think that’ll happen by the end of the week, it’s that close to the end.  I’m looking forward to having another piece of work sent out into the ether, waiting for a positive response.  It will happen one day.  It has to.

Publisher’s Help

After browsing for an agent to submit my work to, I came across Maverick.  I won’t be able to send my current manuscript to them as the story does not fit their requirements BUT I did find some helpful tips for those who could do with a bit of guidance.

I think project three will be suitable for Maverick though, so let’s see what happens once that is ready for submitting.

A Cold Writer

Unbelievably, in the hottest week of the year, I have somehow, miraculously come down with a cold. On the plus side, my hay fever has subsided dramatically, but I’m left with sore bones, a blocked nose and a general ill feeling. I wasn’t able to write last night but will more than make up for it tonight instead.

I was looking forward to project three for ages as well!

What do you do when illness strikes? Do you take some time off away from writing or do you plough on through?

P.S I use the word ‘miraculously’ in a negative way, as in, I don’t sit there and wish for illnesses to happen.

Publisher Tips

In one of the rejection emails received, I was given contacts and websites to visit to encourage me to keep on trying, polishing up the skill they call writing.

I’m going to share these websites with you because knowledge is power, power is pizza, and we all deserve some pizza right?

****

Help with the manuscript; I recommend Blue Pencil Agency http://www.bluepencilagency.com/ for an in-depth editorial analysis of your work by industry professionals.

An

assessment report, we recommend Daniel Goldsmith Associates http://www.danielgoldsmith.co.uk. They give an honest, comprehensive and constructive review of fiction, non-fiction and children’s literature.

House of Editors is a group of award-winning and industry-leading editors, mentors and writers who have helped prize-winning writers polish their novels http://houseofeditors.com. I recommend them for anything from a manuscript assessment to mentorship.

There is also an online forum where authors can get in touch with each other and the writing world at http://writing-community.writersworkshop.co.uk/forum.htm

The websites do work on a fee type basis but if it helps you in any way then excellent.

Publishing Stories

As you know, I’ve been sharing my process of finding a literary agent and so far I can confirm I have had two rejections. I haven’t feel deflated or defeated, but it has encouraged me to keep on going. Whether the manuscript gets published or not, I do believe I WILL get something published one day; If I keep writing, the determination will pay off. There’s no other option.

What stories, good or bad, can you share about looking for a publisher or agent?

Inspiration For A Writer

Today I have found that inspiration or, that inner fire, is trying to get me to concentrate on project robot at this current hour. As much as I would like it, I am unable to as I’m having lunch with my youngest.

If that fire could hold on until 19:00 ish then I will be able to carry on then.

Very Nearly There!

Good evening all!

I have completed project 1, once and for all! It’s been formatted accordingly and now ready for sending off.

I have spent today on the covering letter and this evening my caring and very supportive husband checked everything through but alas, tiredness has got the better of me.

So tomorrow, when I’m fully alert, I will triple-double-chocolate check it all and send then. There’s no point sending it when I’m focusing on keeping my eyes open, rather than acheiving a dream. Its not worth the risk right?

Will keep you posted. To reward myself for getting to this point I must see what is on my Amazon wishlist and purchase what my card will allow me to spend.

Keep on being creative everyone!

Day #3 Writing Challenge – Sweek Microfiction – BOOK

Tonight’s challenge came from a website called Sweek, there are a lot of competitions on here and I feel there may be other nights where I drift back to it.

It took my whole 2+ hours to write tonight, then edit, then add extra in and then edit again, repeat until the maximum 200 word count is reached.

Please click the link below to view the entry, I think the judging is based on hashtag likes so click away.

A Large Book

I may expand on this micro story for my children, I think they’d enjoy it.

Until tomorrow readers, goodnight and keep on writing.
