Children’s Story Update

Good evening all!

It has been a while but I’ve gone back to continue on my 3rd project.

I have mapped it out now and have the right direction, my only concern is that it may be too long but isn’t that what editing is all about?!

I have done about 150+ words tonight, considering it’s a book aimed at 5 year olds and it’s told in a rhyming method that’s actually quite a lot.

Progress is progress as the old saying goes.  Hopefully I’ll update again later this week.  I have taken a break from writing recently, not sure why but my head hasn’t been into it – it probably just needed a rest.

Catch you all again soon and thanks for stopping by.

World Book Day – My Day

In honour of World Book Day, here are the books I have read to my children today! I love all of them but if I had to pick, “Aliens Love Underpants” wins every time. It’s inspired me to write my 3rd project, believe it or not.

Bright Stanley by Matt Buckingham

The Jungle Run by Tony Mitton and Guy Parker-Rees

The Tickle Book by Ian Whybrow and Axel Scheffler

Colour Me Happy by Shen Roddie and Ben Cort

Room On The Broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler

I Wish I Were A Pirate by Smriti Prasadam-Halls And Sarah Ward

Aliens Love Underpants by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort

I am taking all these reading opportunities to do my research on what works in children’s books, looking for specific themes and length etc. Unfortunately there are some books that I don’t approve of and I’m amazed they even got published, see my Naming & Shaming part of my blog for further info.

I love reading books to my children, hence the major desire to write my own books for them!

Project 3 Update

I’ve been busy writing my 3rd small project tonight and have decided to turn the story into a rhyming story for children.  I haven’t done any rhyming in a while and I have so many ideas of how I want the story to go I’m stopping for the night while I plot it all out.

The story is about a dragon who has hayfever!

I’ve read a lot of books to my children today, usually we do read quite a bit but with it being world book day I wanted to get moving with this project a bit more.  I think, because there are so many options when it comes to rhyming, this story may take a bit longer than expected to finish but I still hope for a finish at the very latest by next week.

I’m really enjoying it though to the point where it feels a bit overwhelming, hence the break for tonight but will easily have it done for next week.

Project Robot Update #2

Tonight I finished the robot story.  It’s aimed at young children and as there’s over 1300 words I’ll need to cut down a chunk of it at some point but the completion is what I’m focusing on currently.

I’m really pleased that in a short space of time I’ve wrote 2 stories, with a 3rd already on the way. I haven’t illustrated anything for the original project but I have ideas.  With not having deadlines for any sort of publishing I’m just enjoying the writing part at this moment in time.

Project Robot Update

Last week I told you about my newest writing task, Project Robot.  I’ve realised whilst writing it tonight, it’s going to be a bit of a longer story than Short Story.

I didn’t want to do something long just yet but I think after the edit I’ll be able to get it down to maybe 800 words.  It’s over 1000 currently but for now I need to concentrate on finishing it and then take out all the unnecessary bits.

I’ve done about 350 words on it tonight and hope to finish it by the middle of this upcoming week instead. I’ve gone off track a bit but can easily see how to get back on it.

That’s where I am with things.

Keep on writing and enjoy the experience everyone!

A New Project

Though I’m concentrating on Project Robot I was rummaging through my creation drawer and found an idea I want to progress with. It’s about a dragon who has hayfever. With relating to this subject a lot I figure it’ll just be another short story for my children. I think if I write enough stories I’ll put them in some sort of collection for publishing.

So that’s where I’m at with writing. The momentum is there and the motivation to keep at it is also there so win win!

Project Robot

I didn’t think I’d be starting this so soon but over 700 words later I’ve churned through most of this project already.  It’s aimed at young children and is loosely based on a very well known Christmas song, though there’s nothing Christmassy about this story.

Keep on writing fellow writers and never stop doing it!

Writing Project Update

Well, I can’t believe I’m able to post this but I finished my small writing project that was started several days ago. I have finished the narrative but now I’m going to give the animation aspect a try.  I’m no artist by any means but feel I’d like to now map out and essentially produce this myself. The story itself is only 400 words but that was what I was aiming for. Something small, manageable/achievable etc.

I will see how I get on with the next stage but I’m also now excited at the next project I have lined up.  A robot themed story!

All in all, I’m pleased with where I’m at.

Writing Update

Not to start off on a dull note but unfortunately I haven’t written for some time. I don’t know why but I just can’t dedicate any time at the mo plus I seemed to have wained in the need to write my book. It feels like it’s going to be shelved for several years whilst I’m in this frame of mind and I’m OK with that. I know deep deep deep down I shouldn’t be but you never know things may change.

I may try a new project, something smaller, something easy perhaps. 2018 I am trying to be a bit easier on myself as I am my own worst enemy sometimes!

Let’s see what happens next, wish me luck and hope you all had a great Christmas (if you like the festivities that is. If you didn’t, then like myself, isn’t it good that things are finally back to normal?!).

Write to you all soon.
