Today it dawned on me that the novel I’m writing is going to take a long long time to finish, we’re talking at least another 12 months and with the downside to this being no sense of real accomplishment in the meanwhile I have decided to work on a small project. When I look at the current word count (9000) I am happy but it’s hard to keep the momentum going every day, especially when this is new and there’s the potential to throw the towel in and be done with it altogether.
I will still continue with the novel, with an aim to send to publishers, but I’d also like to try self publishing some short stories for children. On the days when the novel and its world just doesn’t want to escape my brain and be released on paper I’ll switch to the short stories.
There are no deadlines for either projects but to keep the motivation there I think this is the best option. There are some ideas I’d like to play around with, let’s see where they get me.
Has anyone else gone through the same experience?
Happy writing bloggers!
Self-publishing is something I’m thinking about at the moment. It’s mainly to have s goal as you said, something to aim for. Another thought is short-story competitions, but decent ones are few and far between. If you ever need anything proof read give me a shout!

Hmm.. how much do you write a day? I’m always interested in people’s writing techniques.
Personally, if I don’t want to, I don’t write at all. It never turns out very well when I force myself to churn out words, and when I do, I just end up replacing it after a while. I’m a huge binge writer. In January, I wrote nearly half my second novel (a good 60-70k words — and that’s only counting what I kept) but the eight months before that I wrote nothing more than useless scrawls and posts for my blog and Instagram.

Wow that is an incredible amount of words. With it being the summer holidays I’m only able to write in the evenings so it’s averaging out at about 400 words a night.

Everyone needs a rest, otherwise we’d all burn out and there’d be no writers at all😐 have you been watching anything good on TV?
